Haze and I were trying to get our steps in one beautiful Sunday afternoon (yes, here in Manchester *shock horror*) when we stumbled across Randall & Aubin. We peered inside to see a cool, little bit quirky, old school, traditional restaurant and wondered how we’d never come across it before!!!
Anyway, it just so happened with Hazel’s birthday coming up we had the perfect excuse to try it out.
Randall & Aubin started down in Soho, London but luckily for us it expanded up north to Manchester. They’ve got a long history which dates back to 1911 and they pride themselves on only serving the best produce they can find. They celebrate fresh, seasonal ingredients which are delivered daily and choose smaller, local suppliers to source their ingredients.
They have an amazing commitment to sustainability with them being an accredited member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, which is so encouraging and refreshing to hear.
After arriving a good 45 minutes late thanks to the Manchester Christmas Lights Switch On – the traffic was ridiculous. We apologised to the Maitre d’ who said it was absolutely no problem and showed us to our table.
Absolutely starving, we got straight on with ordering the food.
They’re predominantly a seafood restaurant with a selection of specially selected, rotisserie meats as well. Vegetarians, this might not be the place for you.
Our waiter informed us about all the specialities and told us that the oysters and the caviar were not to be missed.
Taking his advice we bravely (well on my behalf) ordered the oysters as a pre starter, starter.
A selection of English, Irish and French Rocks.
1, 2, 3…
Knocked back in one.
For starters we had a classic prawn cocktail with avocado which was delicious
and Manx queenies scallops with pancetta and garlic butter.
This guy ^ flew all the way from Ghana to surprise Haze for her birthday. Need I say more!?
It was so lovely to have him over and made the weekend even more special.
For mains, the girls and I all ordered tuna steak.
Mine was the juiciest cut and was cooked to perfection – perfectly pink and so delicious.
On top of a roasted veg and feta tapenade. I could have eaten it all ten times over.
We got a side of the best zucchini fries i’ve ever had – there was more zucchini to batter ratio which isn’t normally the case, so we were very happy.
We politely declined dessert and headed to Arcane for a drink. It’s a slightly hidden, very cool bar. Chances are you’ve walked past it a million times but never taken any notice.
It’s downstairs in a basement, with low lighting and a unique cocktail menu.
Since we visited they’ve actually got a new cocktail menu out so I think we’ll have to go back and check it out.
Happy (very belated) Birthday Haze.
If you’re looking for a
good great seafood restaurant in Manchester then definitely check out Randall & Aubin, it’s a real good’en.
